A new political group has been formed at Oxfordshire County Council – the Oxfordshire Alliance. The group brings together Conservative councillors, Independent Councillor Saj Malik, and Councillor David Henwood of the Independent Oxford Alliance.
The Oxfordshire Alliance has been established with the shared goal of working together in the best interests of Oxfordshire residents and ensuring strong and effective scrutiny of the new Liberal Democrat-led administration at County Hall. The group will operate as one of the opposition groups, committed to providing constructive challenge, advocating for local communities, and championing transparency in decision-making.
The Oxfordshire Alliance is led by Councillor Liam Walker, County Councillor for Hanborough and Hailey, who said: “The formation of the Oxfordshire Alliance sends a clear message that we are united in our commitment to stand up for Oxfordshire residents and to ensure their voices are heard at County Hall. We will work collaboratively across our group to provide robust opposition, challenge poor decisions, and promote policies that deliver for the whole county. I look forward to working with colleagues to hold the Liberal Democrat administration to account. Residents want to see action, not ideology, and that’s exactly what we will be pushing for.”
Councillor Saj Malik, who represents Cowley and has joined the group as an Independent councillor, said: "I’m proud to be part of this new group which puts the needs of Oxfordshire residents first. Together, we will work to ensure greater accountability and transparency from those in power and bring forward positive solutions for our communities.”
Councillor David Henwood, member of the Independent Oxford Alliance and councillor for Rose Hill & Littlemore, added: "This alliance brings together a shared sense of purpose – to protect frontline services, promote fairness, and ensure every community in Oxfordshire is represented. We will not shy away from holding the administration to account and speaking up for residents.”
The formation of the Oxfordshire Alliance marks a significant development in the change of the political landscape in Oxfordshire and underscores a renewed focus on collaborative opposition, community representation, and responsible governance.
