Conservative leader David Cameron visited
Abingdon on Friday evening (22nd May 2009) with
his popular Cameron Direct event.
More than 180 people packed into the main
hall at Larkmead School on Faringdon Road, Abingdon to hear
Mr Cameron answer questions from members of the public.
During the hour long session, he covered
a wide range of subjects from anti-social behaviour, our
stagnant economy and civil liberties to the Oxfordshire
Incinerator and tackled the issue of MP’s expenses head on.
Nicola Blackwood, Conservative
Parliamentary candidate for Oxford West & Abingdon, who
invited David to come and meet local people said, “It was a
real honour to have David here; I hope people found it
enjoyable and informative. I think now more than ever it is
hugely important that our politicians come and meet people
face to face and answer their questions.”
Nicola added, “The people of Abingdon had
some difficult questions for David regarding expenses and
parliamentary reform, something which isn’t unique to our
area. I agree completely with David that total transparency
is needed. The current system needs to be cleaned up and it
needs to be done as quickly as possible so we can begin on
the long road to restoring people’s faith in our democracy.”
One Abingdon residents who heard Mr
Cameron speak said that David was “Interesting,
informative and inspirational”.
