Conservative
Environment Action Team turn out for OxClean '08
Nicola Blackwood, Conservative Parliamentary
Candidate for Oxford West & Abingdon, led 16
volunteers from the Conservative Environment Action
Group in a bid to clean up the Seacourt Nature
Reserve from 1400 until 1600 on Sunday, 16 March
2008 as part of ‘OxClean’.

OxClean is the Oxford Civic Society’s latest
initiative to try and ensure our city becomes a
'Cleaner, Greener, Kinder' place to live, work and
visit and invites local groups to take part in a co-ordinated
clean up of trouble spots across the city.
On the day they collected 24 bags of rubbish, half a
fridge, the inside of a dishwasher, a TV, 2 shopping
baskets, 7 paint pots, 10 tyres and a bath!

Anthony Roberts, City Council Countryside Ranger
responsible for Seacourt Nature Reserve commented,
‘In the face of some terrible weather the volunteers
managed to remove a fantastic amount of litter from Seacourt
on Sunday and what's more they had a great time
doing it! We are extremely grateful for their
efforts.’
Nicola said, ‘We all had a wonderful time on Sunday
and the difference clearing up the litter and
fly-tipping make to the area was striking. These
kind of projects show that civic spirit a alive and
kicking in Oxford and all that’s needed to galvanise
communities into action is a bit of organisation.
‘The huge success of the OxClean initiative has
inspired me to set up the Conservative Environment
Action Team and I hope that this will be the first
of many outings – positive local activism like this
is at the heart of the Conservative Social Action
agenda and there are certainly a lot of ‘grotspots’
across Oxford West & Abingdon that could do with our
attention!’ |
